everyone has a story this is ours in his story

 Abbey Life Church Story

In the book of Nehemiah, we see how God called Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, a task that was both physically and spiritually significant. Just as the physical walls of the city were broken down, so too were the spiritual walls of our community—broken, fragmented, and in need of restoration. God has called us to plant a church with the same heart and vision—to rebuild these spiritual walls, restoring a sense of purpose and hope where it has been lost. As we step out in faith, our mission is to reach the unchurched and dechurched, inviting them into a relationship with Jesus Christ. This calling is not just about constructing a building but about changing hearts and transforming lives. Through this church plant, we aim to reshape the perspective of who God is in the eyes of our community, drawing people back to Him and showing them His love, grace, and power to restore all things. Just as Nehemiah led the people to rise up and rebuild, we are trusting God to use us to rebuild the spiritual foundation of our community.

Welcome to Abbey Life Church!
We invite you to be part of what God is doing in our community.

Our vision is to be a life-giving church for Newtownabbey and beyond and a community of people who love God and each other.

This dream became a reality when a team of committed people gathered  on Sunday, March 12th at the Courtyard Theatre, Ballyearl to launch  Abbey Life Church. Since then, we have experienced growth and seen lives changed by the love of Jesus.  We’ve  been in awe as God has created and continues to build a beautiful, thriving  church family. Through it all, the vision remains the same, and we invite you  to be a part of the next chapter of what God is doing here. Welcome to Abbey Life Church.

We celebrate people finding God and living their life on purpose. We help people Follow God, Find Freedom and Fulfil Purpose.

OUR DESIRE

"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11 NLT

God has a plan for you! Our Desire is that through Growth Track you will discover the plan God has for you and develop your purpose and ability to live the full life God has created for you.

There are three steps to being connected in Abbey Life Church.  These steps will guide you in your journey to know God, find freedom and fulfil purpose.  In essence, we want you to feel empowered to make a difference not only in your life but also in the lives of those around you.

OUR PRAYER

"So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do." 2 Thessalonians 1:11 NLT

3 STEP JOURNEY:

STEP 1 KNOW GOD

Knowing God and reaching people who don’t know God personally, is one of our greatest priorities.  Our Sunday Service is primarily designed to help people at all stages in their spiritual walk to connect with God.

"Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?" Jesus replied, "'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"Matthew 22:36-39 NLT

SUNDAY SERVICE

Our Sunday Services focus on four values:

1. CELEBRATION

We believe church should be enjoyable.

“I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’” PSALM 122:1 NLT

2. INSPIRATION

We believe church should be a place where people experience God’s presence.

“But…when some unbelievers or ordinary people come in, they will be  convinced of their sin by what they hear. They will be judged by all they  hear, their secret thoughts will be brought into the open, and they will bow  down and worship God, confessing, ‘Truly God is here among you!’” 1 CORINTHIANS 14:24–25 GNT

3. APPLICATION

We believe church should be a place where people learn how the Bible applies  to their daily lives.

“So Christ Himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the  pastors and teachers, to equip His people for works of service, so that the  body of Christ may be built up.” EPHESIANS 4:11–12 NLT

4. SALVATION

We believe church should be a place where people can accept Jesus as their  Lord and Savior.

“‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ But how can  they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they  believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear  about Him unless someone tells them?” ROMANS 10:13–14 NLT

STEP 2 FIND FREEDOM

God created us to live in community with others, and it’s only then that we can experience the full life God intends for us.  We believe that life change and growth happens in the context of relationships.  Life Groups are a place where we can connect with God and with people, which gives us the opportunity to build long-lasting relationships.

"We pray that the Lord will make your love grow more and more, and that you will love each other and everyone else as we love you. Then your hearts will be strong and holy, and you will be blameless before our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones." 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13 ERV

LIFE GROUPS

Whether you’re exploring faith, simply new to Abbey Life Church or you have been a Jesus follower for a while now, finding the next step for you is simple.

"And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ." Acts 5:42 NKJV

"You can’t know everybody but you can know somebody.”

Life Group Goals

The purpose of Life Groups is simple: to bring people together in a safe and friendly environment where they can grow together and have fun in the process.

A FUN place to connect with people.

We were not made to do life alone; God created us for community.  Connect Groups provide a fun place for you to connect with others, share life, and grow in faith together.

A place to GROW together.

We believe every person is created with God-given potential to make a difference in the world.  Life Group is a place you can grow with others to become more like Jesus and reach the potential God has put inside you.

A FRIENDLY place to meet.

When we do life together, our problems become smaller as God uses others to bring support and encouragement to our lives. Connect Groups become a place where others don't just know your name but care about what is happening in your life and want to support you in your spiritual journey.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ABBEY LIFE GROUPS:

1. Complete Next Steps

2. Attend a Connect Group

3. Complete Connect Group leaders training

STEP 3 Fulfil Purpose

The Apostle Peter had a revelation about Jesus: "He is the Son of the living God." Jesus is committed to building his church on this revelation.  In fact, the church is the only thing God is building on the earth. This is why it's so exciting for us to be part of the local church.

Then he asked them, "But who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means 'rock'), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.

Matthew 16:15-18 NLT

Jesus loves the church like a husband loves his bride and would give his life for her.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her fo himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

Ephesians 5:25-27 NIV

The role of the church is to use the gifts Christ has given it, and to prepare people for works of service to build up the church so that we all reach unity, knowledge of God, and maturity, and will not be tricked by wrong teaching.

Now these are the gifts Christ gave the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelist, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won't be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. Ephesians 4:11-15 NLT

Abbey Life Vision

Abbey Life Church is a life-giving church for the unchurched and de-churched. We celebrate people following God, finding freedom and living their life on purpose.

How We Reach The Lost And Make A Difference:

1 Sunday Service

2 Serve on Team

3 Life Groups

4 Give

OUR OUTREACH

As we continue to reach people who are far from God, each one of us can do our part. As a church however, we have the great privilege of corporately focusing our efforts on reaching people in three key places designated by Jesus in our city, our nation, and our world by following these four principles:

1. Accept the personal RESPONSIBILITY .

 2. Build a personal RELATIONSHIP .

3. Share your personal STORY .

4. Give a personal INVITATION .

How we share Christ with others:

“Go out into the country…and urge anyone you find to come, so that the  house will be full.” LUKE 14:23 TLB

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8 NIV

In addition to our efforts during Sunday services, we are focused on reaching  people in three key places designated by Jesus:

1. "Jerusalem": Our cities.

The primary way we reach our cities is through the local church where we provide relevant Sunday services, Life Groups, and various outreach activities.

“Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this:  Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight.” JAMES 1:27 MSG

2. "In Judea and Samaria": Our nation.

The primary way we reach our nation is by starting new churches and strengthening existing ones and to help us do this, we partner with organisations like CCI (www.ccireland.ie/) and ARC Ireland (www.arcireland.org/)

ARC is a church-planting organization that started with two church plant. We  support ARC today as it trains, coaches, and resources hundreds of new  church plants across Ireland and abroad every year.

Learn more about ARC at arcchurches.com.

“As they traveled from town to town, they presented the simple guidelines  the Jerusalem apostles and leaders had come up with. That turned out to be  most helpful. Day after day the congregations became stronger in faith and  larger in size.”  ACTS 16:4–5 MSG

3. "To the ends of the earth": Our world.

The main way we reach our world is through missions. At Abbey Life, we intentionally invest a portion of our resources in mission work around the world with a focus on unreached people groups, children, and church planting.

“Jesus said to His followers, ‘Go everywhere in the world, and tell the Good News  to everyone.’” MARK 16:15 NCV

How you can participate:

1. PRAY

Pray that we might reach people in each of these areas with the Good News  of Jesus.

“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are  few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His  harvest field.’”

MATTHEW 9:37–38

2. GIVE

Give your time and resources to reach people for Christ.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin  destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves  treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where  thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart  will also be.”

MATTHEW 6:19–21

3. GO

Go to our cities, nation, and world to serve others and show people  the love of God.

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And  who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’ He said, ‘Go and  tell this people...’”

ISAIAH 6:8–9

OUR CHURCH STRUCTURE

ABBEY LIFE CHURCH GOVERNMENT

As you consider investing your heart, time, family, and finances into the life of a church, it  is important for you to feel confident in church leadership. Our goal in sharing the details  of Abbey Life Church’s government is that you will understand that our church is structured to  support the values of integrity, accountability, and spiritual authority.

Abbey Life is a non-denominational church. At the same time, we do not stand alone as  we partner with other Bible-teaching churches. Our church was planted with the help of  the Association of Related Churches (ARC), a family and network of churches focused on  reaching people through planting new life-giving churches; we contribute to ARC’s efforts  in planting churches nationally, globally, and strategically in Ireland.

Our church government is made up of three groups of leaders:

1. Guided by PASTORAL LEAD TEAM

The Pastoral team is led by our Lead Pastors Darren and Suzanne Jennings. This team oversees the day-to day ministry and operations of the church. These pastors serve the  congregation and are responsible for the development of the spiritual  life of the church.

2. Protected by TRUSTEES

The Trustees are our board of directors, appointed by our Lead Pastors  to oversee the finances and the stewarding of those finances toward the ministry of the  church. They provide counsel to the Lead Pastors regarding the major financial commitments of the church and serve as the legal board of administrators.

3. Strengthened by OVERSEERS

The overseers are pastors of respected congregations who love Redemption and are willing  to provide spiritual accountability and guidance to our Lead Pastors. They may be called  upon to help in accountability matters relating to the Lead Pastors if requested to do so by the Pastoral Staff or Trustees. They also speak into the life, vision, and health of our church.

OUR FINANCES

We believe growing in generosity is part of growing spiritually.  At Abbey Life Church, we believe that giving is an act of worship and an expression of our relationship with God. At Abbey Life Church , we practice tithing for the support of Christ’s body, the church,  as God commands.

“A tithe of everything…belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.” Leviticus 27:30

"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do," says the Lord of Heaven's Armies, "I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!" Malachi 3:10 NLT

At Abbey Life Church we support Christ's body, the church, through the practice of tithing. We recognise that the biblical standard of giving 10% of our income is a principle God wants to bless. Giving is one of the central themes of the Bible, and Jesus talks more about this subject than prayer or heaven or hell. In accordance with the examples in the Bible. There are three ways we can give at Abbey Life Church.

1. Tithe

Tithing is giving the first 10% of our income to the local church. This is the primary way we acknowledge that God is first in our lives.

Honour the Lord with your possessions, and with the first fruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine. Proverbs 3:9-10 NKJV

2. Offerings

An offering is giving over and above what we tithe. The Bible teaches that we are truly living when we give generously.

Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life. 1 Timothy 6:18-19 NLT

3. The Gift of Giving

The gift of giving is a Spiritual gift given to some people who desire to serve God by giving of their God given material resources, far beyond their tithe, to further God's work.

If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. Romans 12:5 NLT

Many people love to give to God financially and want to have confidence in the organisation through which they give. At Abbey Life Church, we want people to understand that they are giving to God through the church, not to the church. Therefore, we want people to feel free to focus on what God is calling them to give and trust that God is leading our church to steward all finance well through transparent and honest financial practices. Giving of tithes and offerings is an act of worship to God and an expression of the relationship between the giver and the Lord.

We are committed to financial integrity,  full accountability, and the transparent  stewardship of our finances. Our board of trustees reviews financial reports quarterly including all income and expenses.

YOU CAN BELONG HERE

Anyone can attend and be part of Abbey Life Church.

If you're considering to join us, please:

PRAY

The harvest is ready so let's pray for people. Let's pray for the ones who will share Jesus with people, for our pastors and our church.

So he said to his disciples, "The harvest is large, but there are few workers to gather it in. Pray to the owner of the harvest that he will send out workers to gather in his harvest." Matthew 9:37-38 GNB

RESOURCE

Give your time and resources to reach people with the good news of Jesus.

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroys and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moths nor rust destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV

GO

Go into our cities, nation, and world to serve people and show them the love of God. Find your place and serve.

"Then I heard the Lord's voice, saying, "Who can I send? Who will go for us?" So I said, "Here I am. Send me!" Isaiah 6:8 ERV

God has a place for you where your unique abilities and passions can impact the lives of others. We believe your life will never make sense until you: find, develop, and fulfil your purpose.

God has made us what we are, in Christ Jesus, God made us new people so that we would spend our lives doing the good things he had already planned for us to do.

Ephesians 2:10 ERV

HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

We believe that God wants us to help and serve others. If you don't know where to start, here are a few things you can do:

1. Connect with new people.

People matter to God, so they matter to us.

Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God. Romans 15:7 NKJV

2. Build relationship with the team.

Leaders and their teams support one another in the journey of life just like

Family.

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. Phil 1:4-5 NIV

3. Empower others.

We are people of purpose, working together on purpose.

He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.

Col 1:28 NIV

4. Take time to celebrate the wins.

There is nothing more powerful than a life changed by Christ.

"In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Luk 15:10 NIV

SELF-AWARENESS

At Abbey Life Church we offer two assessments to help you discover more about yourself and your gifts. This will help you understand how God made you and ultimately will make you better at life.

2. Discover my gifts

If you'd like to complete these assessments, please speak with our team.

DREAM TEAM

Whether on Sunday or during the week, our incredible team of volunteers are committed to sharing the love of Jesus with their community and to serve with teams to make our Sunday services happen.

Being a team member at Abbey Life Church is not about simply adding your name to a roster; it’s about  committing to the church family and owning the vision. It’s an intentional shift from the  drift toward “spiritual consumerism” to actively contributing to the mission. Serving encourages spiritual growth. The New Testament places a major emphasis on the need for  Christians to be accountable to each other for spiritual growth. You cannot be accountable  when you’re not committed to any specific church family.

DREAM TEAM QUALITIES

1. We love GOD

• Develop your closeness with God.

• Develop your character.

• Develop your calling.

2. We love PEOPLE

• Be a servant.

• Be a team player.

• Be real.

3. We pursue EXCELLENCE

• Do things well.

• Do them before you're asked.

• Do more than is expected.

4. We choose JOY

• Be joyful.

• Be positive.

• Be loyal.

DREAM TEAM VALUES

1. I will protect the unity of my church by:

+ Acting in love towards other members.

+ Refusing to gossip

+ Being responsive to leaders and praying for them.

So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up. Romans 14:19 NLT

Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. Ephesians 4:29 NLT

Be responsive to your pastoral leaders. Listen to their counsel. They are alert to the condition of your lives and work under the strict supervision of God. Contribute to the joy of their leadership, not its drudgery. Why would you want to make things harder for them? Pray for us. We have no doubt about what we are doing or why, but it's hard going and we need your prayers.

Hebrews 13:17-18 MSG

2. I will share the responsibility of my church by:

+ Praying for its growth and health.

+ inviting the unchurched to attend.

+ Warmly welcoming those who visit.

"From Paul, Silas, and Timothy-To the people of the church in Thessalonica. who belong to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

May grace and peace be yours. We always thank God for you all and always mention you in our prayers."

1 Thessalonians 1:1-2 GNT

"Then the master told his servant, "Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full.*"

Luke 14:23 NIV

Welcome and receive (to your hearts] one another, then, even as Christ has welcomed and received you, for the glory of God. Romans 16:7 AMPC

3. I will support the testimony of my church by:

+ Attending church faithfully.

+ Living a Godly life.

+ Giving regularly.

Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more. since you see that the Day of the Lord is coming near.

Hebrews 10:25 GNT

Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ.

Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News, Philippians 1:27 NLT

4. I will serve the ministry of my church by:

+ Discovering my gifts and talents.

+ Using my God-given gifts to make a difference in the lives of others.

+ Developing a servant heart.

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.

1 Peter 4:10 NLT

Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and buid up the church, the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-12 NLT

Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had Philippians 2:4-5 NLT

Thank you.

CREATING A CULTURE

We’re intentionally building a culture that values...

OUR BELIEFS

“Keep a close watch on how you live and on  your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the  sake of your own salvation and the salvation of  those who hear you.”

1 TIMOTHY 4:16

“For God is not a God of disorder; but of peace...  But everything should be done in a fitting

and orderly way.”

1 CORINTHIANS 14:33, 40

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Our beliefs and approach to doctrine

can be described as...

Rooted in orthodoxy in that we affirm the historic declarations and creeds  of the Christian faith. These are the basic truths that all Christians have confessed and held to for centuries.

Bible-Based & Christ-centered in that we believe the Bible is the inspired  Word of God, salvation is the gift of God through faith in Jesus Christ, and  our response to the Gospel should produce a life of holiness and personal  witness to our faith.

Spirit-led in that we believe in and embrace the continuing presence and  work of the Holy Spirit in our lives and gatherings. We seek the direction  of the Holy Spirit for the vision and mission of our church. This statement  captures our heart and approach to doctrine as we embrace unity in the  midst of diversity:

“In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty,

in all things charity..”

RUPERTUS MELDENIUS | 17TH CENTURY GERMAN THEOLOGIAN#

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe in:

The one true God who lives eternally in three persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.

The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God – fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.

The dignity of all people, made male and female in God’s image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement.

The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ – born of the Virgin Mary, truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.

The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.

The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruit of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.

The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.

The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.

The Church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers – given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit’s gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.

The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth.
